Dredging Corporation of India, the pioneer Dredging Company, under the Ministry of Shipping has secured Capital Dredging Contract worth `171.00 Crores from Ennore Port ltd.
DCI stood lowest bidder (L1) under stiff competition from national and international dredging companies. Total eight Indian and International dredging companies have participated in the tendering process called for by the Major port. Estimated contract value of the work is about ` 171.00 Crores.
The work shall be completed in a period of 18 months. The work comprises of deepening in front of Berths and turning basin and deepening of the entrance Channel.
The work also includes about 9.5 million Cubic meters dredging and pumping the dredged material on shore for land reclamation and beach nourishment. Out of the eight dredging companies participated in the tendering process, three companies are Indian owned and five companies are of International. Seven firms have been technically qualified and the price bids have been opened at Chennai.
DCI possess necessary equipment and planning to deploy a combination of high powered Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) and Trailer Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) for executing the work. The work is likely to commence during December 2010.
DCI continue to be market leader in India and presently executing maintenance and capital dredging works at major ports like Haldia, Paradip, Mormugao, Mangalore, and Visakhapatnam and at DGNP Visakhapatnam, Southern Naval Command Cochin, etc. DCI is having 10 TSHDs and 3 CSDs and in the process of augmenting its capacity. DCI recently placed orders for procuring two new state of the art dredgers on IHC, Holland.
