Obama Supports Port of Jacksonville Development

The Miami Herlad reports that President Obama says his administration is committed to improvements for the Port of Jacksonville.

Obama told television station WJXT in Jacksonville on Monday that his administration is committed to funding dredging of the St. Johns River so Jacksonville can bring in large cargo ships and become home again to an aircraft carrier at Naval Station Mayport.

Obama said: “Certainly on the port and the channels, that is something that’s very important to the economic development of the region.”

According to The Miami Herald, Obama said there’s money in his budget to make sure the Army Corps of Engineers can continue to review the feasibility of deepening and expanding operations there.
