Philippines: Officials Order Dredging of Manila Waterways

During a meeting with Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio Singson, and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino, the Metro Manila mayors were given the marching orders to clear the waterways in the city.

According to mb.com, this order was given two days after President Benigno S. Aquino III announced the allocation of P50 billion or P10 billion a year for five years to relocate informal settlers occupying waterways in the metropolis.

The mayors unanimously approved the strict implementation of the government plan.
