Nigeria: Umeh Calls for River Niger Dredging

National Chairman, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Chief Victor Umeh, has urged the Federal Government to dredge the entire River Niger.

He said that the dredging of the entire river would enable it to contain the large volume of water coming into Niger from all the inlets.

“The over-flooding took place because the River Niger has become shallow; a lot of sand had been deposited on the course of the river, on the bed,” stated Umeh, and added: “If the River Niger is not dredged, right from Niger State down to Lokoja, down to Onitsha, down to Atlantic Ocean, we will continue to experience flooding any time there is serious rain.”
