The Dutch dredging company Van Oord has won the Mumbai Port maintenance dredging contract, reports joc.com.
This deepening program, vital for Indian port’s future, is scheduled to commence next month.
So far, Mumbai’s draft restrictions have prevented larger vessels to dock at the port’s berths.
According to joc.com, the Mumbai Port Authority is currently developing a new US$300 million offshore container terminal.
This new representative facility, scheduled for completion by the end of 2014 with an initial 800,000TEU annual capacity, will allow 6,000 TEU vessels to dock at its berths.
