Ocean City Replenishment Project Enters Final Phase

Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian said in his weekly address that the north end beach replenishment project is progressing nicely and, weather permitting, will be finished before Christmas.

Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company has rebuilt the dunes in the 5th Street area and is pumping sand in the area of the Music Pier now. The City received additional quantities of sand to enhance other dune areas in the northern project.

The City team is in the process of restoring sand fence and dune grass planting will occur this week.

The sand is being harvested from an offshore borrow area a short distance off Surf Road Beach.

Powered by the dredger Illinois, the sand is being transported through a pipeline that lands on the beach at North Street. From there, a pipeline runs down the beach as work progresses.
