Dredging of Savannah Harbor Entrance Channel 25 Pct Complete

At the Georgia Ports Authority board meeting Monday, September 19th, Executive Director Griff Lynch updated the board on the progress of the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project.

During the meeting, Lynch said that to date, approximately 25 percent of the SHEP entrance channel dredging has been completed.

The $134.5 million contract for the deepening of the Savannah Harbor federal shipping channel was awarded to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company (GLDD) in early 2015.

The project, part of the SHEP, involves dredging of the entrance channel to a depth of 47 feet and represents the first step in deepening the 40 mile long shipping channel and harbor.

It is expected that the dredging operations will be completed by summer 2018.
