Royal HaskoningDHV Experts to Speak at RRC Event in Brighton

Top river restoration experts from Royal HaskoningDHV are actively taking part in the River Restoration Center’s Annual Conference in Brighton.

With this year’s conference theme of River Restoration: Facing Uncertainty, Ian Dennis and Clare Rodgers will be examining different perspectives on detailed design and the EcoCo Life+ project respectively, the company said.

The conference, taking place this week, aims to bring together professionals from all areas of river restoration. The two-day event includes around 50 speakers, workshop sessions and networking opportunities.

This year’s theme was chosen to reflect key concerns raised by delegates at the 2016 conference.

Ian Dennis, Water Sector Lead at Royal HaskoningDHV, will be presenting an examination of different approaches to detailed design.

The term means different things to different people and in reality represents a spectrum of different outputs, all of which, he will argue, are valid approaches and have their place in the designer’s toolkit.

He will use recent projects the team has worked on such as on the Rivers Esk, Cam and Uck, to demonstrate the various approaches to detailed design and discuss the selection process and the merits of each.

Senior Environmental Scientist, Clare Rodgers, alongside Roberto Martinez from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, will present findings from the Glazert Water pilot study which sought to improve lateral connectivity between river and floodplain thus improving instream natural habitats.

The study demonstrates the benefits of river restoration for biodiversity and ecological connectivity, alongside the more widely appreciated benefits for geomorphology and natural flood risk management.

The case study will also be used to highlight examples of best practice in developing and implementing the design.
