The works are part of the wider Houston Ship Channel Expansion project – also known as the Project 11.

Weeks was recently awarded one of two contracts for the Port of Houston Authority to widen 8.3 miles of the Houston Ship Channel and 4 miles of the Bayport Ship Channel.

Notable challenges include working within one of the busiest waterways in the nation, dredging new work material from these channels and constructing a Three Bird Island Marsh habitat in Trinity Bay.

When completed these islands will include 6 acres of bird habitat 5.4 acres of oyster reef wave trips and 11,550 linear feet of armored dikes connecting the 3 bird islands.
