The U.S. Department of Transportation (Maritime Administration, “MARAD”) has recently picked Ellicott’s Wisconsin yard for a $550,000 grant to support innovation and further enhance efficient manufacturing of dredges.

Ellicott’s selection was noteworthy for two reasons:

– First, in winning this award, Ellicott was one of just twelve shipyards selected out of over 120 applicants nationwide (and the only dredge builder),

– Second, this marks the second time Ellicott has earned this distinction, as its Baltimore, MD yard won a similar grant in 2009.

Ellicott will spend most of the money on a new large marine travel lift as well as other enhancements to factory equipment and training.
