The Florida Ports Council released the following statement on Governor Rick Scott approving funds for the Port Canaveral project to widen and deepen the West Turning Basin and Entrance.

“ With cruise and cargo ships growing larger, Governor Scott’s decision to expedite this project will put Port Canaveral more quickly in a position to capitalize on cargo and cruise business opportunities, ” said Doug Wheeler, president of Florida Ports Council.

“In addition, this investment will help Port Canaveral retain high-wage jobs and will bring much-needed new jobs to this critical region. We look forward to continuing our work with Governor Scott and the Florida Department of Transportation in identifying future strategic port investments.”
