Ukraine: Yuzhny Port on Right Track
The Administration of the Yuzhny Port (Odessa region) increased the port dues that are levied on capesize vessels with drafts of more than 14.5 meters at its berths No. 5 and No. 6 on July 1.
This became possible after the port acquired the ability to handle vessels with drafts of up to 18.5 meters following dredging work, the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure said.
The dredging of the Yuzhny Port’s waters started in February 2013. The port’s channel draft increased from 14.5 to 18.5 meters during the dredging project.
At the same time, no funds generated from the port dues that are levied in the waters of other seaports had been used for this project as of July 1 this year, the Ministry of Infrastructure said.
