USACE Meeting on Flood Risk Solutions in Fremont, Nebraska

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, will hold an information meeting on Monday, July 24, 2017 in Fremont to discuss potential nonstructural flood risk management solutions.

The meeting will be held, in cooperation with the City of Fremont, Village of Inglewood, Dodge County and Lower Platte North Natural Resources District, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Christensen Field in Fremont, NE.

There will be a brief presentation around 6:30 p.m. followed by an open house where people will have the opportunity to ask questions about what nonstructural flood risk solutions are, how they reduce damages from flooding and how they affect flood insurance premiums, USACE said.

Background

The City of Fremont, Village of Inglewood and the Dodge County Industrial Park lie in the floodplain of the Platte River in eastern Nebraska.

Fremont, adjacent Inglewood, and unincorporated areas of Dodge County are subject to the threat of ice-affected flooding, flooding from snowmelt runoff, and flooding from rainfall runoff from the Platte River.

Flooding due to ice jams constitute the majority of the flood risk in the area.
