Comments Invited on Areskonk Creek Dredging Plan

The Town of Brookhaven, NY, has requested Department of the Army authorization to perform dredging with ten-year maintenance, and placement of the dredged sand at a town owned beach upland of the Spring High Water (SHW) line.

According to the Army Corps’ announcement, the dredging activity associated with this project is located at Areskonk Creek, a tributary of Moriches Bay, in Center Moriches.

The sand placement will occur at Webby’s Beach, USACE said in its public notice.

The decision whether to issue a permit will be based on an evaluation of the probable impact including cumulative impacts of the proposed activity on the public interest,” the notice reads.

The deadline for submitting the comments on this dredging plan is February 27, 2018.
