Dredging

Transport for NSW recently commenced dredging operations in the Batemans Bay which are necessary to keep the Clyde River Bar open and navigable for both commercial and recreational vessels.

The dredging work, which started in mid-October, should take about 3 – 4 weeks to complete, depending on the weather.

Key details of the work include:

  • dredging at the Clyde River Bar to maintain a navigable channel
  • dredging about 40 metres wide and to a depth of -2.6 metres Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT)
  • removing about 30,000 cubic metres

The dredged sand is being placed offshore, about 600 metres from the Surfside Beach shore, allowing natural processes to reshape the nearby beaches.
