The Port of São Francisco do Sul has completed maintenance dredging of its basin, removing 170,000 cubic meters of sediment from the seabed.
The operations, conducted with Jan De Nul's giant trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Galileo Galilei, covered an area of 133,000 square meters and involved an investment of R$ 8 million ($1.6 million), funded entirely by the Port Authority.
Ivan Amaral, the Secretary of Ports, Airports and Railways, said that this area is of critical importance to the Port's operations, adding that "the completion of this work demonstrates the commitment of the Port of São Francisco do Sul’s management to maintaining competitiveness and operational capacity."
The sediment removed during these works was disposed of in the open sea, within a zone designated by environmental authorities, located 23 kilometers from the Port.
