DRAVO S.A. has launched a new dredging project in Port Santo, on the Madeira archipelago.
"The main goal of of this work is to add 170,000 cubic meters of sand onto the beaches to combat severe coastal erosion affecting the island, and our dredger Costa Atlantica is already hard at work," the company said.
"Through this beach nourishment project, we are not only restoring a valuable stretch of sand but also taking a decisive step toward mitigating and combating the effects of climate change."
Porto Santo Island faces significant coastal and beach erosion, losing up to 20 to 30 meters of its iconic golden sand beaches over the past 50 years, and now, the Government of Madeira is investing EUR 2.1 million to stop this process.
