Brazil: 2012 Starts with Successful IADC Seminar

2012 Starts with Successful IADC Seminar.

Each year the International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) organises its International Seminar on Dredging and Reclamation in various parts of the world. This intensive week-long course was recently presented in Recife (Brazil) from 19 to 23 March 2012.

Over 40 participants including civil engineers, area managers, a port captain, site engineers and commercial managers, coming from companies such as APM Terminals, IHC Merwede, LLX Açu Operações Portuárias S.A., VALE,… registered for this first Brazilian edition of the Seminar. Considering the great interest shown, by both the participants and the lecturers, and their very positive feedback, a repeat performance in Brazil is certainly in the planning.

NEXT STOP DELFT

Traditionally, the Seminar is also given each year in Delft (the Netherlands) and this year is no exception. From 18 through 22 June 2012 the Seminar will again be presented at UNESCO-IHE.

Since 1993 IADC has organised this Seminar aimed at (future) decision makers and their advisors in governments, port and harbour authorities, off-shore companies and other organisations confronted with the execution of dredging projects – a course developed for professionals in dredging-related industries and presented by professionals from the major dredging companies. With a combination of classroom lectures and workshops, as well as an on-site visit, “the students” receive invaluable hands-on experience.

SEEING DREDGING IN ACTION IS BELIEVING: SITE VISIT

An important feature of each Seminar is a trip to a dredging project: In this case, the visit will be to Maasvlakte 2 (the new port of Rotterdam) and to the dredging yard of IADC member Van Oord. This will give participants the opportunity to see dredging equipment in action and to gain a better understanding of the extent of a dredging activity.

COSTS

The fee for the week-long Seminar is € 2,250.- (VAT inclusive). This includes all tuition, seminar proceedings, workshops and special participants’ dinner, but excludes travel costs and accommodations. Assistance with finding hotel accommodation can be given.

CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT

Each participant will receive a set of comprehensive proceedings with an extensive reference list of relevant literature and, at the end of the week, a Certificate of Achievement in recognition of the completion of the coursework. The Seminar starts Monday 18th 8:45 hrs and ends Friday 22nd June 17:30 hrs. Please note that full attendance is required for obtaining the Certificate of Achievement.

To optimise the chances of the successful completion of a project, contracting parties should, from the start, fully understand the requirements of a dredging project.
