The Netherlands: Port of Dordrecht to Get Financial Injection

Port of Dordrecht to Get Financial Injection.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority expects to invest tens of millions of euros in the port of Dordrecht in the coming years.

Important parts of the revitalisation are the improvement of nautical access, especially the draught, the construction of new jetties for inland shipping and a filling in to create more terminal surface area. This will preserve existing cargo packages as well as attract new ones.

ZHD and Standic

Serious discussions are underway with the two largest businesses present, stevedore ZHD Stevedoring and tank storage company Standic, which have plans for expansion. Standic wants to be able to handle more ships at the same time and this requires more jetty capacity. ZHD wants to grow in biomass and scrap in particular, for which more storage space is needed. There is also a need for greater draught for sea-going ships, for instance for the supply of biomass.

Three areas

Dordrecht is one of the three existing port areas in which the Port Authority wants to invest between EUR 300 and 500 million in the coming ten years. This is on top of the approximately EUR 150 million that is already invested every year. The other two areas are the Botlek and the Waal/Eemhaven.
