CPA General Delivers 1st State of the Port Address

CPA general manager, Engr. Dennis R. Villamor, breaks new grounds as he delivered the first-ever State of the Port Address to an audience composed of representatives from the shipping lines, cargo handling service providers, members of the Cebu Port Commission and CPA employess at the Social Hall of the CPA administration building.

The GM’s speech discussed, among others, the prospects of exploring new possibilities geared toward improving CPA’s efficiency and transparency in public service. He assured port users that the Authority is embarking on new undertakings to make the Cebu Port a premium port in the country.

Atty. Yusop J. Uckung, Acting Deputy General Manager said that ongoing projects are projected to be fully realized before the end of 2012. Among these projects are the:

– Provision of portable toilets in strategic areas of the port

– Installation of CCTV cameras at the port gates, passenger terminals and key operational areas

– Establishment of emergency response stations at the ports

– Dredging of CIP berths

– Megaports project

– Gender and development projects.

Atty. Uckung also said that CPA continues to explore more ways of enhancing port operations such as the possibility of installing a Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) to aid the harbor pilot in the entry and exit of vessels; a mass transport system at the Cebu Baseport; a separate passenger terminal for Manila-bound vessels; an enhanced port lighting system; electronic gate control; computerized business transactions (e-commerce); rehabilitation and renovation of passenger terminal buildings; and the commercial and cultural development of the Compaña Maritima building and its surrounding areas.
