RDC-X OKs Northern Mindanao PPA Projects

The Regional Development Council of Northern Mindanao (RDC-X) has endorsed major infrastructure projects proposed by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) for 2016.

The proposed projects are to be implemented in the region by the Port Management Offices (PMOs) of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro, Lanao del Norte/Iligan, and Misamis Occidental/Ozamiz.

The projects seek to improve sea transportation and handling of increasing number of sea port traffic in Northern Mindanao.

Major projects proposed to be implemented by the PPA-PMO Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro include the development and construction of ports in Laguindingan and Opol; development of Jasaan Port and Phase 2 of Benoni Port; and construction of modern passenger terminal building, breakbulk receiving facility, and 6-line electronic gate complex in the Port of Cagayan de Oro.

Planned projects by the PPA-PMO Misamis Occidental/Ozamiz City include reclamation of back-up area and construction of perimeter and R.C. wharf in the Port of Plaridel; installation of two clusters breasting dolphins in the Port of Jimenez and Port of Ozamiz; as well as dredging works along R.C wharf and construction of multi-purpose shed in the Port of Ozamiz.

The endorsement of the PPA-PMOs proposed projects to the PPA Board and the Department of Transportation and Communication for funding was approved by RDC-X members in a meeting held on March 19.
