VIDEO UPDATE: Yaquina Working in Morro Bay

The City of Morro Bay staff and City Councilmember Matt Makowetski were given a tour of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Dredge Yaquina on June 2, 2015.

During the visit, guests had an opportunity to see the dredge in action and to learn more about the process from the crew.

This 200-foot-long vessel, home ported in Portland, Ore., is conducting annual dredging of the Morro Bay main channel. Because the channel is a federal channel, costs of this dredging are paid through the federal budget.

Designed by USACE and built by Norfolk Shipbuilding & Drydock Corp., the Yaquina mission is to maintain federal navigation channels in the Pacific Northwest.
