LAWS Projects: Pinkston Basin Dredge

Contracted by Scottish Canals, Pinkston Basin was a challenge to the Land and Water Services (LAWS) team as 4,000m3 of silt material had been stored within the basin during construction of a water sport center.

To protect new tarmac and buried services, excavator mats were deployed beneath a 13t long reach which was used to load material to waiting haulage lorries.

An amphibious excavator was used to dredge the material from the watercourse. A silt curtain was deployed and dissolved oxygen monitoring was also carried out during the works.

The water sports center suffered little or no disruption and water quality remained high in the public areas.
