The Carteret County reported yesterday that the first batch of land-based piping has arrived at the Indian Beach 4WD Ramp and is actively being staged along the beachfront.

According to the County, both the Indian Beach 4WD Ramp and Dog Leg 4WD Drive Access will be used to transfer land-based dredge pipe and other heavy equipment needed for the project.

The Post Florence project will utilize 945,446 cubic yards of sand obtained from the Offshore Dredged Material Disposal Site (ODMDS) associated with Morehead City Federal Navigation Project.

Under the plans, GLDD’s dredge Liberty Island will begin dredging/nourishment operations in the first week of March, followed by the Ellis Island that will arrive on the site several weeks later.

The project is scheduled to be completed by April 30, 2019.
