Soil Conservation Service today released a very interesting video about the Narrabeen Lagoon dredging project.
Although carried out in one form or another over the last 40 plus years, 2021 was the first to use an amphibious excavator with a dredge head.
“This means work is safer with less impact to the local community, and we can work regardless of the lagoon depth (which often fills up significantly after rain events),” said Soil Conservation Service.
A sand/water mixture is pumped through floating pipe work to a dewatering basin.
From here, the excavator extracts sand and loads trucks to be taken to Collaroy beach where there is significant erosion.
