Nigeria Minister of Transport Restates Government's Investment in Dredging of Lower Niger

Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar adopted the Public Private Partnership (PPP) framework for enabling the private sector to invest in the transportation sector.

At the 11th National Council of Transport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, the Minister restated the Government’s enormous investment in dredging of the Lower Niger.

He also stressed that considerable private investments have been made by the private sector in the development of some facilities in the ports in Lagos and Onne as well as the proposed construction of green field sea ports in Lekki, Badagry, Snake Island (Lagos), Olokola (Ogun) and Ibaka (Akwa Ibom).

In a statement signed by the assistant director, press and public relation, Abiodun Oladunjoye in Abuja , the Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio represented by his deputy, Mr. Nsima Ekere, demanded from the Federal Government to dredge the Akwa Ibom coastline from Itu through Oron to Ikot Abasi and to conduct extensive, precise and up-to-date maritime surveys to lead investors in the sub-sector.
