UK: Southampton Port Expansion Still Pending

A public consultation into the £150m expansion of Southampton’s port was conducted yesterday and a decision is expected to be reached within a month.

ABP would like to redevelop two berths and conduct dredging activities to enable the port to welcome and accommodate the latest and largest container ships.

Opponents of the Southampton scheme have stressed that ABP did not consult the necessary organizations upon submitting its first application. The outcome of these objections was a delayed scheme.

Even without these objections, it seems apparent that opponents could still request a judicial review of the process, which could result in further delays for Southampton.
