It was established on the 8th of June 2012 that the company „Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors BV“ has already excavated 1 027 354 cubic meters of soil pursuant to the contract agreement on Klaipeda Port channel dredging and widening. These dredging works were launched on the 22 nd of April.

„What‘s worth noting, Van Oord has already dredged 1 027 354 cubic metres within the period of 47 work days, this amount of excavated soil constitutes even 23 percent of the total scope of dredging works“, told the Director of Infrastructure and Development Roma Mušeckienė.

As provided in the contract agreement the amount of dredged soil within 2 stages of works should be approx. 4,5 million cubic metres. The total contractual price is 129 507 884,00 litas including VAT.

The Director General Eugenijus Gentvilas said: „We are extremely satisfied with such rates of works. With respect to the contract signed as in 2007 on the dredging of 0,7 million of cubic metres of soil and the rates the former Contractor performed the maintenance dredging works the indices of ongoing dredging works demonstrate that the present Contractor has been operating a professional hightech dredging equipment and prove that the present Contractor is a serious one.“

For comparison

According to the contract agreement signed in 2007 the Contractor JSC „Klaipėdos Hidrotechnika“ committed to deepen the Northern part of Klaipėda Port entrance channel up to 14,5 metres and to dredge 700 thousand cubic metres of soil. Throughout the period of 3 years the Contractor managed to excavate 570 thousand cubic metres of soil. Some sectors still have not been accepted, the matter is under the pretrial investigation.
