USA: Albany-Santiam Canal Dredging to Begin in September

Making repairs and dredging the Albany-Santiam Canal between Seventh Avenue and the Union Pacific Railroad track crossing will begin shortly after Sept. 1., reports democratherald.com.

The Albany City Council this week awarded the contract to Richard Phillips Marine.

The contractor has previous dredging experience. Albany-Santiam Canal works include removing sediment, plants and other debris to improve the canal’s carrying capacity.

A majority of that section of the canal goes through the Monteith Historic District,” said Staci Belcastro.

This section of the canal was dredged in 1993. Anticipated duration of the project is 60 days.
