Great News for Hussainsagar Lake Dredging (India)

Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) yesterday launched the “Forum for a Clean Hussainsagar”.

HMDA draws this move in its efforts to involve public in the Hussainsagar Lake dredging project, according to thehindu.com.

“We can construct as many treatment plants, drains and nalas as we like but we can’t conserve the lake unless we involve the public. We need to make people of Hyderabad identify with the lake,” said Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority Commissioner Neerabh Kumar Prasad.

Due to the International Conference on Biodiversity, the dredging program at the Hussainsagar Lake was halted for a while. Now, this picture is changing.

“The dredging activity of Kukatapally nala will start from November. The hazardous waste taken out will be chemically treated. Then Pollution Control Board will conduct tests to separate the hazardous and the non-hazardous wastes,” concluded Mr. Neerabh.
