Gibbstown Hosts USACE’s Workshop

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection released a draft report for a flood risk management feasibility study and are now accepting public comments on the proposal.

USACE and NJDEP will host a public workshop on August 13th from 4-7:30 p.m. at the Greenwich Township Library at 411 Swedesboro Rd to discuss the recommended plan detailed in the report.

The purpose of the study is to identify and evaluate potential flood risk management solutions along portions of the Delaware River in New Jersey, and to assess the feasibility of implementing the solutions.

In Gibbstown, the recommended plan calls for the construction of approximately 7400 feet of levee; the construction of approximately 13,800 feet of floodwall; the construction of two swing closure gates; the acquisition of 17 structures; nonstructural protection (ringwalls) for three commercial properties; as well as interior drainage features.

As part of the release of the draft report, USACE invites the public to submit comments on the proposal.
