All Set for Eastern Channel Dredging Project

Cowes Harbour Commission today issued a notice saying that dredge licences have been issued for dredging to begin of the new Eastern Channel from the 2nd January 2019.

CHC expects that the main Eastern Channel dredge will be completed within 8 weeks.

Once the Eastern Channel has been completed there will be additional dredging operations at various locations within Cowes Harbour. These additional areas and operations will be promulgated by Local Notices to Mariners in early 2019, said CHC.

The dredging operations will be carried out by the dredge barge ‘Doreen Dorward’, with the spoil being deposited into two split hopper barges ‘Nab’ and ‘Needles’.

CHC also added that the existing Small Craft Channel will remain open for use for the majority of this project, but there will be occasions when temporary exclusion zones may be in force around the dredging operations and vessels may be required to use the Main Channel.
