Southsea Coastal Scheme-Beach recharge operations

Due to the construction of new sea defences, the contractors will next month close a section of the Southsea promenade to recharge the beach with new sand.

The KHM Portsmouth announced today that as a part of the Southsea Coastal Scheme works, during September 2023, there will be deliveries of gravel as beach recharge activity to the seafront area to the east of Southsea Castle, starting on Saturday 2 September and continuing for 2-3 weeks.

The dredged gravel material will be delivered to the Southsea by the trailer suction hopper dredger SOSPAN DAU.

Offloading operations – “rainbowing” onto the beach – will take place over the high-water period, with the vessel unmooring on completion and returning to sea to reload at authorised dredge sites.
