As part of a joint venture, DEME is carrying out the works to widen a 4.2-kilometre stretch of this strategic waterway, connecting the North Sea ports with the Baltic region.

The project’s primary focus is to broaden the canal’s bottom width from its current 44 metres to 70 metres.

Also, the dredging campaign will kick off in 2024, deploying a backhoe dredger and multiple barges.

Overall, approximately 1 million m3 of materials will be dredged, said DEME.
