Town Neck Beach gets new sand

The Army Corps’ New England District Planning Division performed maintenance dredging which hydraulically removed approximately 118,000 cubic yards of sand from Cape Cod Canal.

The sand was then pumped onto Town Neck Beach in Sandwich, MA. Additional sand will be placed on Town Neck Beach as part of the Cape Cod Canal Section 111 Shore Damage Mitigation Project.

This project will provide further shoreline protection to Town Neck Beach along with the 600+ acre salt marsh behind it. Up to 387,000 cubic yards will be dredged from the Scusset Borrow Site, off of Scusset Beach Reservation, and placed onto the beach.

A dune and berm will be constructed on Town Neck Beach as part of the project to protect the beach’s properties and natural resources.

USACE is currently in the design phase for the project with construction expected to begin in October 2024.
