A significant milestone has been reached for the Millport Coastal Flood Protection Scheme, Van Oord said.

In less than 5 months, Van Oord has successfully positioned more than 140,000 tonnes of rock to create breakwaters and revetments to critically reduce coastal floodings due to storms.

North Ayrshire Council contracted Van Oord and its subsidiary Mackley for the Millport project, located on the Scottish Island of Great Cumbrae.

With the completion of the breakwaters, the focus remains on finishing the onshore works.

Construction works on the £48 million flood protection scheme started last spring.
