Land & Water: Dredging underway on Worcester and Birmingham Canal

Dredging

Recent heavy rainfall created a significant challenge for the Canal and River Trust at Dunhampstead Tunnel on the Worcester and Birmingham Canal, where the towpath at the tunnel approach had slipped into the canal causing a footpath and navigations closure.

Land & Water were contracted at short notice to clear the channel and remove the unstable material from the cutting.

This was carried out using our unique knock-down pontoon mounted ZX85 excavator which, with its 10m reach, was able to clear material from the very top of the cutting,” Land & Water said.

The pontoon was transported from the mobilization site in two halves to allow passage through the narrow locks and then assembled, and the excavator mounted when it arrived on site.
