Following preparatory dredging works, construction has now officially kicked off on the Canal Tunnels, said DEME.

These tunnels, consisting of four tubes stacked in pairs, will pass beneath the Albert Canal, providing a direct connection between the future Oosterweel Junction and the deepened Antwerp Ring Road.

The Canal Tunnels and the Scheldt Tunnel, both involving DEME’s dredging and infra expertise, will form the missing link that will complete the Antwerp Ring Road.

The first sections of the Canal Tunnels will be ready by the end of 2028.
