USA: Lake Apopka Needs Dredging, Commissioner Says

Orange County Commissioner Fred Brummer says he wants to spend $1 million to clean up a polluted lake, reports wftv.com.

Brummer believes an experimental project could bring benefits for Lake Apopka.

This is a pilot. It is innovative. It is trying. There is no guarantee that this works, however, if you are going to try to expect some results, you have to be willing to commit to it,” said Brummer.

Dredging of the entire area would cost too much because of that Brummer wants to concentrate on two areas: Magnolia Park and Newton Park.

Friends of Lake Apopka are concerned about the idea of using new dredging methods.

A total of 180 million USD have already been spent on Lake Apopka restoration efforts.
