USA: DMR Seeks Public Input on Ocean Gateway Terminal Dredging

Department of Marine Resources (DMR) will hold a public meeting on Thursday, January 26, 2012, 6:00 p.m. at the Casco Bay Lines Terminal conference room, 56 Commercial Street, Portland.

The purpose of the meeting is to gather information and comments from the public on a proposal by the Maine Dept. of Transportation and the City of Portland to dredge material from a 2.75 acre area at the Ocean Gateway Terminal to a depth of – 35 ft. MLLW. Dredged material would be placed in the easterly end of the former BIW dry-dock sinking hole adjacent to the area to be dredged.

Prior to dredging and disposal operations, lobster in both the area to be dredged and the area to be used for disposal will be relocated by trapping and follow-up collection of remaining lobster by divers under the supervision of DMR.
