USA: Army Corps Postpones Port of Astoria Public Meeting

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is postponing Thursday evening’s public meeting to discuss a draft environmental assessment of proposed nearshore sediment placement sites near the mouth of the Columbia River. The meeting was to be held at the Port of Astoria.

The public comment period on the draft environmental assessment began March 1 and early feedback indicates more information needs to be included in the document.

We want to make sure people have time to review the study data supporting the benefits of this project,” said Jarod Norton, the Corps’ project manager for the mouth of the Columbia River navigation project. “We plan to issue an updated environmental assessment and believe the additional information will make public meetings more productive for everyone.”

The meeting venue is also expected to change to one better suited to accommodate the number of people expressing interest in the draft environmental assessment. A new meeting date and location will be announced when they are confirmed.
