Thailand: Prime Minister Presides Over Flood Meeting

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has called a meeting of the National Water Resources and Flood Policy Committee in order to follow up on the progress of water management projects.

The meeting is intended to monitor the progress of the approved water resources management projects which have been assigned to various corresponding agencies. These projects are expected to be completed by August in time for the rainy season. They include the maintenance of sluice gates, the reinforcement and construction of dykes, and the dredging of canals and monkey cheeks.

The PM has expressed confidence that the flood crisis will not repeat itself again this year. At the same time, she insisted that the government will carry out its water management plan in the most efficient manner to prevent another catastrophe from occurring for the safety of lives and properties.
