USA: Dredger “Yaquina” Arrives in Morro Bay

The 200-foot dredge Yaquina is back in Morro Bay for the next few weeks, seeing what it can dredge up, reports sanluisobispo.com.

This dredging vessel is expected to bring up enough sand in the area of the harbor mouth to create a 40- to 45-foot hole.

According to Harbor Director Eric Endersby, the Yaquina can move 10,000 to 13,000 cubic yards of sand per 24 hours.

The sand, sucked up with massive vacuum pumps and placed in the ship’s hopper, is then taken a mile south of the South Jetty and dumped in what’s called an inshore disposable area.
