Port Development Projects - Big Chance for Ukraine

Maritime industry has great potential for development of infrastructure, competitiveness, creation of workplaces. Government policy in respect of ports should be very clear: the state should provide all necessary conditions for the development projects,” stated the deputy Natalya Korolevskaya during her visit to the port of Odessa.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Industrial and Regulatory Policy and Entrepreneurship visited the port on August 28, during her business trip to Odessa region with the aim to study the state of the industry and business environment in the region.

During the stay at the port Korolevskaya and accompanying persons were given the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of a number of cargo terminals, visit construction sites, to estimate the attractiveness of passenger terminal of the port of Odessa.

Taking advantage of the opportunity of direct dialogue with one of the leading economists in the highest legislative body of the country, the leaders of the administration and the Trade Union Committee of the port raised the issues to the guests, solution of which depends on the preservation of Ukraine’s status as a transit node on the trade route from South-Eeast Asia to Europe.

In particular were discussed the issues of domestic legislation imperfection in terms of investment attractiveness of ports, out of datetariff policy, etc.

At the end of the visit Korolevskaya thanked the port workers for their significant contribution in strengthening of the economic potential of Ukraine and promised support the pressing issues of the maritime industry in every possible way.
