Indonesia: Konecranes Delivers RTGs to BICT

Konecranes Delivers RTGs to BICT

Ten Konecranes Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes delivered in June are now all running smoothly at Belawan International Container Terminal (BICT) at the port of Belawan, Indonesia.

BICT is managed by Indonesia Port Corporation I (Pelindo I), one of four state-owned Indonesian terminal operators.

Having received five RTGs previously, BICT now operates a fleet of fifteen Konecranes RTGs.The ten RTGs delivered in June are technically very similar to the ones already delivered. When they change stack, for example, their wheels rotate while turning. This feature reduces wear on the rubber tires and the container yard compared to traditional solutions, extending the lifetime of the rubber tires and yard surface.

We are very proud that BICT has chosen Konecranes again as its reliable partner with the latest technologies for RTG cranes,” says Jyrki Melaanvuo, Head of the Konecranes Port Crane business in the Asia-Pacific region. The five Konecranes RTGs delivered last year and the ten RTGs delivered last quarter are working very well at BICT, and we now have more than thirty RTGs running in Indonesia.

The ten 8-wheel RTGs can stack six plus one containers high and six containers wide plus truck lane. They have a lifting capacity of 40 tons.
