Governor Scott Visits Port of Palm Beach

The Port of Palm Beach District Board of Commissioners Chairman, George E. Mastics, and the Port’s Executive Director, Manuel Almira, were honored by Governor Rick Scott during the Governor’s visit to the Port of Palm Beach, Thursday, March 21, 2013.

“For your commitment to making sure Florida is a global hub of business, I would like to present both of you with the Governor’s Business Ambassador Medal,” said Governor Scott as he presented the award. “This medal symbolizes our appreciation for your work in expanding opportunities for Florida families.”

The awards were presented during the Governor’s first visit to the Port of Palm Beach. During the visit, Almira escorted Governor Scott on a Port tour highlighting the $26.2M Restoration Project on the Port’s Slip 3, while also discussing future Port growth and funding needs.

“What an honor to be recognized by Governor Scott,” said Chairman Mastics. “This medal really symbolizes all that the Port does to be an economic engine for Palm Beach County.”

The Governor held a press conference to highlight his dedication to infrastructure improvement to ports across the state. He also recognized local manufacturers who do business with the Port of Palm Beach as a means to promote his proposed elimination of sales tax on manufacturing equipment.

“The elimination of this sales tax will help us create more jobs for Florida families and will benefit Florida’s ports,” Scott “Governor’s Scott’s visit to the Port of Palm Beach was a great opportunity to show him what we at the Port are currently doing, and what we plan to do in the future to promote business and job creation in our area,” said Almira.

“We hope this will be the first of many opportunities for us to welcome Governor Scott’s to our Port.”
