Maldives to Get 3 New Harbors

Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has signed contracts for the construction of harbors in 3 Islands (HA. Utheem, L. Maavah and L. Dhambidhoo).

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Chief Executive Officer of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company, Dr. Ahmed Adham Abdull, Managing Director of Heavy force, Ibrahim Zameer, Managing Director Abdulla Mohamed from AMIN Construction, Council members for the 3 islands and officials from the ministry attended the ceremony held at the Ministry.

Construction of harbor in HA.Utheem which will be funded by the Government budget would cost MRF 25 million and is scheduled to be completed within 365 days. The contract was signed between Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure and Heavy force. On behalf of the Government of Maldives, Minister Dr.Mohamed Muizzu signed the agreement while, Managing Director of Heavy force, Ibrahim Zameer signed the agreement on behalf of Heavy force.

Under this project a new harbor of size (500ft x 250ft) is to be constructed in the island. The main components of the harbor works includes construction of 254 meter concrete quay-wall, 140 meter rock revetment, 246 meter rock armor breakwater and dredging the harbor basin to a depth of 3 meters.

Harbor project in L.Maavah which will be funded by the Government budget would cost MRF 28.2 million and is scheduled to be completed within 240 days. The contract was signed between Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure and AMIN Construction Pvt Ltd. On behalf of the Government of Maldives, Dr.Mohamed Muizzu signed the agreement while, Managing Director Abdulla Mohamed signed on behalf of AMIN Construction. Under this project the existing harbor in the island will be reconstructed to a size of (800ft x 300ft).

The main components of the harbor works includes reconstructing the existing 156 meter concrete qual-wall, 170 meter sand cement bag breakwater, construction of 345 meter rock armour breakwater and dredging the harbour basin to a depth of 3 meters.

The third island signed, L.Dhambidhoo which will also be funding by the Government budget would cost MRF 29.7 million and is scheduled to be completed within 290 days. The contract was signed between Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Ltd.

On behalf of the Government of Maldives, Minister Dr.Mohamed Muizzu signed the agreement while, CEO of MTCC, Dr. Ahmed Adham Abdull signed on behalf of MTCC. Under this project the existing harbour in the island will be fully reconstructed to a size of (450ft x 250ft).

The main components of the harbor works includes construction of 268 meter concrete quay-wall, 137 meter rock armour breakwater, 75 meter rock revetment and dredging the harbor basin to a depth of 3 meters.
