Comments Open for Lock and Dam 1 in MinneapolisThe U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is seeking comments on a Clean Water Act evaluation to make repairs at Lock and Dam 1 in Minneapolis.

The Corps is developing plans to repair scouring immediately downstream of the dam. The plan includes placing more than 14,000 cubic yards of rock along the entire width of the dam and up to 150 feet downstream. In all, an estimated three acres south of the dam will be impacted by the project.

The project is important to maintaining the structural integrity of the dam. Work is anticipated to be completed by the end of fall 2015.

The Clean Water Act Section 404(b)(1) Evaluation review period runs from Dec. 5 – Jan. 7, 2015.

Some 650 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response.
