Comment Period Extended for Martis Creek

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District has extended the public comment period for the draft Martis Creek master plan update and accompanying environmental assessment by two weeks, meaning comments can now be submitted for consideration until January 3, 2015.

The master plan, which guides the management of natural and cultural resources and development of recreation-related facilities in and around the Corps-managed reservoir near Truckee, was last updated in 1977.

If any modifications to Martis Creek Dam are proposed in the future as a result of the Corps’ ongoing dam safety study, the master plan would be further reviewed and modified as necessary.

More than 40 people attended a public meeting held December 8 in Truckee, California. The open house meeting allowed interested residents and recreation users to meet with Corps staff to discuss the proposed plan, ask questions and provide comments.

We met with a number of very passionate individuals about our lands at Martis Creek Lake, and as a result we decided it was in our best interest to give additional opportunity for participation in our process,” said Doug Grothe, park manager at Martis Creek Lake.
