TIPC Awards Contract for New Terminal

Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) is continuing the growth and expansion trend with another major construction contract being awarded last month.

In April, TIPC awarded $130 million contract for the land reclamation and reinforcement works at Kaohsiung’s Wharves S4 and S5, coming one step closer to the goal of becoming a major container hub in the region.

The contract, part of the company’s Intercontinental Container Terminal Phase 2 project, is the third large bid award to date for work on this major infrastructure project following previous awards for seawall, breakwater and for shoreline reinforcement.

Construction works on the new state-of-the-art 18m deep container terminal are expected to begin later this month. The new 1,185m-long wharf will be built entirely on reclaimed land.

Once finished, this highly efficient, low-operating-cost container terminal is expected to attract at least $500 million worth of new investments in new facilities and equipment.
